Education & Life Skills

Life Skills That Open Doors to Independence

Education & Life Skills at First Coast Ability & Wellness Center

Leaving school-based services shouldn't mean leaving learning behind.

Our Education & Life Skills program gives adults with intellectual and developmental differences across Northeast Florida the practical, real-world abilities that make everyday independence possible. Through technology education, financial literacy, and employment readiness, we help each person grow in confidence—one skill, one win at a time.

Technology Education for Everyday Confidence

Technology is woven into nearly everything—messaging a friend, joining a video call, filling out a form, or ordering groceries online.

Our technology education sessions teach these everyday digital skills at a pace and in a way that fits each learner, using our research- and data-based approach tailored to the individual. The goal is simple: help each person use the tools of modern life comfortably and safely, so the digital world feels like an open door rather than a locked one.

Financial literacy for developmental disabilities

Financial Literacy That Builds Real-World Security

Managing money is one of the biggest steps toward living independently—and one of the least often taught after school ends.

Our financial literacy sessions cover the practical foundations: understanding money, budgeting, saving, and making everyday spending decisions with confidence. We teach these skills warmly and clearly, meeting each person where they are so financial independence feels achievable rather than overwhelming.

Employment readiness for IDD adults in Florida

Employment Readiness for a Fuller, More Connected Life

Meaningful work brings purpose, routine, income, and connection.

Our employment readiness programming helps adults with intellectual and developmental differences prepare for the workplace—building the everyday skills, habits, and confidence that make employment possible and sustainable. Because our approach is individualized, we focus on each person's strengths and goals, not a one-size-fits-all checklist.
